First Tech Challenge

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) was founded in 1989 with the aim of inspiring young people’s interest and involvement in science and technology. Based in Manchester, FIRST is a non-profit organisation that develops accessible and innovative programmes designed to motivate young people to pursue an education and career in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Through these programmes, young people develop the self-confidence, knowledge and skills they need for life.

Pushing Kids Into Innovating

FIRST® Tech Challenge students collaborate with their mentors to design and build robots to compete in a dynamic and engaging challenge, launched each September. Teams program classroom-sized robots to follow autonomous commands before students take control in two-on-two matches. On and off the field, participants develop STEM skills, get involved in community projects, practice engineering innovation, and build the confidence to succeed.
